For the Gardner

Slugs and aphids can be a problem. Use pesticides registered for these pests, or try soapy water spray (a diluted dish soap solution) for the aphids, and bait the slugs with a dish of beer, whose rim is at ground level.

For the Commercial Grower:

Thrips and Aphids
Screen vents to keep Thrips and aphids out. Place blue sticky cards in the house. These will tell you if Thrips are present.

Occasionally, use of a miticide may be necessary.

Botrytis is best controlled by bottom watering. Spray a fungicide as a preventative if using overhead irrigation.

Root Rots
Roots are sensitive but will remain in good condition with proper handling.
