Unlike common verbenas, Tapien foliage is fine and lacy; the flowers are delicate in appearance. But, their appearance is deceiving these plants are tough. More cold and heat tolerant than typical verbenas, Suntory's vibrant variety is actually winter hardy in mild climates, forming constant clusters of flowers from spring well into fall. They are resistant to the foliage diseases that damage or kill most verbenas, too. And, they grow so densely, so vigorously, so compactly, that weeds don't get a chance.
Tapien verbenas get their vigor and disease resistance from wild tropical cousins discovered by Suntory and used in their breeding. Amazing tumbling from containers or spilling across the landscape, Tapien mixes well with other plants, putting on a color-filled show. Use them to add a blanket of color in your sunny beds.
